How To Find Your Dream Job
This one is for everyone who is still looking for their dream job! If you have found it, let me know in the comments! If not, keep reading!
As most of you will know, I have been flipping my professional life around 180 degrees. There have been many reasons for that, but most of it is summarized in this blog post.
"Isn't that a little like saving up sex for your old age?"
- Warren Buffett
Warren Buffett asked a 28 year old about his future plans. The student told him about everything he's planning for his career and how it will look in his CV. That's when he came up with the question you see in the quote above.
Personally, I was looking for ways to climb up the corporate ladder as fast as possible and constantly thinking about future projects or business ideas I could pursue. But then I digged deeper into the work of various business consultants and speakers. And they are all sharing one thing.
Our business environment is changing faster than ever. At the same time we're stuck with a career mindset from the 50's or 60's. Combining that, mainstream culture will suggest the "safe" route. But what was a safe track for your grandparents back then, is the most dangerous path in the 21st century.
And it worked for some time for me. I've been trying to put all my passion, imagination and vision into my university and work life. It worked as long, as I kept hitting my head straight against a wall. Over and over and over again. Until it hurts enough to realize that funnily you keep trying to break something unbreakable.
Now, I don't have a job. I live in the environment that's thrown at me. And suddenly things start to magically work out on their own. I don't suggest you just copy me. I can only propose to start living with uncertainty and pursue what you're super excited about. Life unfolds itself and it doesn't happen on a resumé.
